A Quick Update

Sunday, 29 December 2013

I'm sure the majority will agree that the past few weeks have most definitely been (and always are) the most hectic days of the year. In my usual fashion, I left the majority of things until the last possible minute which meant that christmas eve was a mad rush to get myself organised! In amongst all this, i've also been working full-time and have been ill not once but TWICE (life is just too cruel sometimes!) Of course, in the christmas festivities, I've reluctantly ended up neglecting my blog as I've just had no time to actually sit down and devote some time to writing up posts. As the manic-ness is starting to die down now (and we can all have a chance to breath!), I'm ready to get back on track. I've really enjoyed reading other christmassy posts and have some ideas for content to post in the next few weeks (including christmas pressies and sale buys) .. it's now time to put my plan into action! So keep your eyes peeled for new posts coming up...

So it's no secret that I love a bargain so when I spotted these CK eyeshadows in my local poundland, I thought I'd give them a whirl for £1 each. I've never tried CK makeup before although, being a well established brand, I was expecting great things...

Smock Wants

Friday, 29 November 2013

What I've learnt this week: having a full-time job leaves 0 time for blogging. FACT. It's ridiculous! Solution: I have every intention of spending this weekend organising my blogging planner to get lots and lots of content sorted. When I say I have every intention, I really do, although the reality of this actually happened will remain to be seen.....

I Heart Primark | A #BritishBloggerSelection Post

Friday, 22 November 2013

So the #BritishBloggerSelection theme this week is favourite clothes shop. It will probably come as no surprise to most of you that I have chosen Primark!! I could easily rant on for ages about why I love this cheap and cheerful brand but that would make a very boring read (and write!). We all know why primark is so popular: It's cheap and fashionable. What more can you want?

A Bag Wishlist

Friday, 15 November 2013

So I feel like I've written hundreds of wishlists in the last few months and here comes another...I've been in one of those moods recently where I just seem to want everything I see! (We've all been there!) It really doesn't help working in the accessories department in debenhams...I fall in love with something at least every shift (and I've done 5 this week...eek!) As it just so happens, I've actauallu been on a handbag hunt for a while now. I seem to rotate between 2 or 3 bags, wearing them down until the straps break or the stitching comes undone and my only black handbag is on it's last legs meaning a new addition is on the horizon...yay!!

#BritishBloggerSelection About Me Q&A

Monday, 11 November 2013

So the #BritishBloggerSelection theme for this week is all about me and my little blog! We've been set a series of questions to answer so you get to find out a little more about me (oh, joys!) I always find it interesting reading these type of posts as it's nice to know a bit about who's writing the posts you're reading. So if you'd like to know more...here goes...

Boohoo Styling Project

Saturday, 9 November 2013

When boohoo got in contact asking if I could participate in a 'How to' styling project, I jumped at the chance. I absolutely love shopping on the website (and love the prices even more!) and couldn't wait to see what they had in mind. Basically I was asked to style up the Penny Fluffy Reindeer Jumper with a few other items from the boohoo website to create an outfit worthy of the christmas period (which, by the way, was nearly impossible without falling in love every few clicks!). I specifically wanted to syle an outfit which I would wear myself and initially hit a brick wall with the christmas jumper as it's not something I would normally wear, as much as I love the idea! After a little hunt around, I chose a girly look (what a surprise!) with a chunky twist...

Cheapy Lipsticks

Friday, 8 November 2013

It's nice to have a lipstick splurge every now and again, and I'm the first to admit that I love a fresh new lip colour. I love to experiment with different colours and finishes and love a new trend but I have to admit that I usually stick to the same few brands for my lip colours. I'm sure many are the same, slipping into 'comfort zones' with makeup; once i've found something I'm happy with, I'll stick to it, maybe varying the shades. However, I took a risk last week in my local cheapy makeup store and picked up a couple of lipsticks which werent in my 'approved lipstick brands' list.

Victoria's Secret Goodies

Thursday, 7 November 2013

The other week I entered a giveaway over on elisse's blog (check it out if you get a chance, she writes lovely posts!) and was so surprised when she announced I was the winner on twitter! The prize was a couple of scents from Victoria's Secret and fell through the post box a few days ago. Elisse had picked her personal favourites and all I can say is what great taste she has! I'd never tried any VS fragrances before so didn't know what to expect from them, I've seen lots of bloggers raving about the scents but I've always thought of fragrance as a very personal thing. Anyway, I was very excited to see how these worked out...

What I Wore | Stay

Tuesday, 5 November 2013

Ok so this may not look like a 'what i wore' post just yet, but bear with me. Basically, I spotted this
b-e-a-utiful dress in a charity shop last week and just couldn't leave it behind. I absolutely loved the fabric and, surprisingly, it actually fitted perfectly too. Of course I needed to bring it back into this century but that seemed like a fair price to pay for a lovely dress (along with the £4 I payed for it) So I got to work. Now, I don't know why I find these sorts of projects for myself as I only end up in a pile of fabric, pins and cotton, getting more and more annoyed by the second as my patience disappears completely! Anyway, I set off on my mission and begun to hack away at the fabric. The final result? I love it. It is a tad shorter than planned as I got a bit snip-happy, but oh well. (By the way, if you have any idea how I can add a couple of inches, let me know!)

What's in my bag?

Friday, 1 November 2013

I haven't done a post like this before but I know how nosey you all are (if you're anything like me!) so I'll give it a shot. Basically, I'm heading out on a shopping trip to Norwich today and took the opportunity to rearrange my bag. Now, normally, I carry my whole life in my bag which means it's pretty much impossible to find anything I'm looking for. Typically, I'll have about 5 lipsticks, 2 purses, old receipts (just in case) my WHOLE makeup bag, a million bus tickets... you get the picture! I've put things in my bag, only to never see them again, they just disappear and I even found a tape measure in there the other day!     But every now and again I think enough is enough. I get fed up of the mess and decide to have a rearrange. This is when I place my ESSENTIAL items into my bag in an attempt to organise myself slightly (this normally lasts all of 24 hours if lucky!) and make finding things just a little bit easier. So here's what I chose as my 'essential' items...

#TBT | The Halloween Edit And First #BritishBloggerSelection Post

Thursday, 31 October 2013

I really wanted to do a halloween post on the spookiest day of the year but I wasn't really feeling making a themed wishlist as I've seen so many this year already. Then I had the bright idea that Halloween falls on a thursday aka throwback thursday, so here it is. TBT The halloween edit.

This post may be a little different to usual, but I just thought I'd let you all know about a little blogging group I've recently joined called the #BritishBloggerSelection. Basically it's a lovely idea thought up by Ellie at Little Vintage Camera to bring together...well, British bloggers!

Rimmel Kate Matte Lipstick

Wednesday, 30 October 2013

I've been promising a review on my new fave lipstick for a while and have mentioned it a couple of times already. You may have already spotted a sneak-peak in my outfit post or weekly roundup but I thought I'd write a full review anyway.
So I had heard a lot of hype from bloggers about the Kate Moss range by Rimmel and on my matte-lipstick-hunt last week, I stumbled across the range myself. I've been searching high and low for an orange-toned juicy red and to find this in a matte finish was the ultimate combo for me! I grabbed the final stick of shade #111 Kiss of life (I absolutely love this name by the way!) and raced home to see if my tester swatch matched up to reality.

MUA Pro-Brow Kit

Monday, 28 October 2013

I'm not gonna lie, I've been after this palette for months. I've searched superdrug high and low every time I've found myself in town and finally got lucky last week when I spotted two little boxes in the usual empty space. Noticing one was already open (always a little risky with makeup) I grabbed the sealed box and ran to the till. At just £3.50, I've heard great things about this little kit and, as I've recently been borrowing my sister's HD brows kit, I've been dying to compare the two.

The Big Grad Ball Dress Hunt

Saturday, 26 October 2013

So it's just under a month until I graduate (ahhh!) and that means it's just under a month until I'll wear a lovely dress to the grad ball. In true abi style, I have absolutely no idea what I'm going to wear so have been frantically hunting everywhere I can think of for the perfect dress. As you will all know, this is much easier said than done, especially when you're on a budget.  I've  I've found some gorgeous dresses for over £100 but just can't justify spending that on a dress I will almost certainly only wear once so I've been looking for options under the £40 mark and what a mission it's been!

The Skort

Thursday, 24 October 2013

I remember my 8-year old self owning a few skorts (oh, the 90's) but I hadn't seen such a thing since, until a few months ago. When I first spotted the skort this summer, I had an flashback to the days I very reluctantly had to wear brown culottes every Thursday to brownies.  I absolutely hated these brown culottes at the time and they are still stuck in my childhood peeves. Now, I know culottes are a little different to skorts but i group them in the same category as they both serve the same purpose: modesty in skirt form. A genius concept mainly worn by tennis players and small children who don't quite understand ladylike mannerisms yet.

Revlon Black Cherry Lipstick

Wednesday, 23 October 2013

I know a lot of us are loving dark lip colours this season...although maybe on everyone else but ourselves. If you're anything like me, you'll have every intention of rocking plum or berry lips but in reality are absolutely terrified of the concept. I had a dark lipstick last winter and plucked up the courage to wear it on a couple of occasions but just as I started to become comfortable with the idea, the lipstick disappeared (just typical!). This means it's been a whole year since I last took the plunge so this year I have to start from scratch again! Now I'm not one to shy away from bold lipsticks, I love a kick of colour, but there's just something about the dark lip that absolutely terrifies me and I know many feel the same.

Maybelline Vintage Leather Nail Polish

Monday, 21 October 2013

I absoloutely love matte nails and although I was impressed by BarryM's versions, their colour selction is really shocking (review here). So when I heard about Maybelline's Vintage Leather nail polishes, I was dying to try them. These are supposed to look like old, distressed leather and have a matte appearance with grainy flecks. I picked up 'Red Grained' from Boots for £2.99 without a second thought and couldn't wait to give it a go.

October '13 Haul

Saturday, 19 October 2013

Everyone loves a haul (especially when you're the one buying!) so I thought I'd let you all know what I've been spending my pennies on this week. I spent a few hours in town yesterday and went to all my usual hotspots to look for goodies. I wasn't really looking for anything in particular but I knew I wanted some new lipsticks so I'll start there...

Style Crush: Suki Waterhouse

Friday, 18 October 2013

The Hair. The Clothes. Suki Waterhouse has jumped headfirst without a crash helmet into the fashion industry and boy has she been noticed. Being BFFs with Cara Delevingne has definitely done well for the model-slash-photographer-slash-actress-slash-singer (phew!). She's jumped straight to the fashion top in the style-stakes and this is why...

Casio Mini Watch

I've been eagerly awaiting the postman for the last few days and was so excited when I heard the door yesterday as he brought my new casio watch. YAYY! I've never been one for watches (probably because I wear too many bracelets for one to fit!) but recently I've found myself craving one. Cue the casio watch. I've stolen borrowed my sister's blue casio a couple of times but I eventually got caught so it was about time I had my own.

BarryM Confetti Paint

Wednesday, 16 October 2013

You may of guessed already that I love BarryM. It's no secret really but I recently bought the new confetti nail paint they've released. I love a nail experiment and this lovely pastel pink is right up my street so it wasn't long before I started dreaming up colour combos...

Cath Kidston Wishlist

Monday, 14 October 2013

I am not one bit ashamed in admitting I'm Cath Kidston obsessed and I know for sure that I'm not the only one. I get the feeling somthimes it's more like a secret club for the girliest of girls. Pink, cute and flowers, Cath sure knows the way to our hearts. I always find myself in trouble shopping there. Once I'm in, thats it! I'm not coming out without a damaged bank balance and that feeling of guilt where you can't quite justify what you've just done. I don't know what to blame more: the flowers, the pink or just the stores themselves. Whoever the culprit is, it's meant pretty patterns have swept across the country, encouraging the shabby chic-obsession. I bravely took a look on the website and picked out my favourite bits and bobs.

Cutting It. Boots

Saturday, 12 October 2013

I literally live in my new look studded boots as they just go with everything, I'm afraid if i give them too much love, they'll start falling apart so it's time for another pair of ankle boots to alternate. Enter the cut-out boot. I've seen so many of these around recently and decided to check out what's available online. There are so many to choose from and, to be honest, a lot of them look exactly the same but I searched high and low came across these little beauties.

Wednesday, 9 October 2013

I'm in desperate need of a new winter coat. Ok, maybe not, so I would really really like a new winter coat. I'm so tempted by the lovely pink boyfriend coats I've been seeing everywhere but somehow I'm not really seeing a pink coat as an investment piece. I can just see myself finding it next autumn and wondering how on earth I'm going to update it. It's all about investment coats (unless you have a killer bank balance) and that's certainly my plan. I've been scouring the online shopping world to find some serious options for this year's winter warmer.
