#TBT | The Halloween Edit And First #BritishBloggerSelection Post

Thursday, 31 October 2013

I really wanted to do a halloween post on the spookiest day of the year but I wasn't really feeling making a themed wishlist as I've seen so many this year already. Then I had the bright idea that Halloween falls on a thursday aka throwback thursday, so here it is. TBT The halloween edit.

This post may be a little different to usual, but I just thought I'd let you all know about a little blogging group I've recently joined called the #BritishBloggerSelection. Basically it's a lovely idea thought up by Ellie at Little Vintage Camera to bring together...well, British bloggers!

Rimmel Kate Matte Lipstick

Wednesday, 30 October 2013

I've been promising a review on my new fave lipstick for a while and have mentioned it a couple of times already. You may have already spotted a sneak-peak in my outfit post or weekly roundup but I thought I'd write a full review anyway.
So I had heard a lot of hype from bloggers about the Kate Moss range by Rimmel and on my matte-lipstick-hunt last week, I stumbled across the range myself. I've been searching high and low for an orange-toned juicy red and to find this in a matte finish was the ultimate combo for me! I grabbed the final stick of shade #111 Kiss of life (I absolutely love this name by the way!) and raced home to see if my tester swatch matched up to reality.

MUA Pro-Brow Kit

Monday, 28 October 2013

I'm not gonna lie, I've been after this palette for months. I've searched superdrug high and low every time I've found myself in town and finally got lucky last week when I spotted two little boxes in the usual empty space. Noticing one was already open (always a little risky with makeup) I grabbed the sealed box and ran to the till. At just £3.50, I've heard great things about this little kit and, as I've recently been borrowing my sister's HD brows kit, I've been dying to compare the two.

The Big Grad Ball Dress Hunt

Saturday, 26 October 2013

So it's just under a month until I graduate (ahhh!) and that means it's just under a month until I'll wear a lovely dress to the grad ball. In true abi style, I have absolutely no idea what I'm going to wear so have been frantically hunting everywhere I can think of for the perfect dress. As you will all know, this is much easier said than done, especially when you're on a budget.  I've  I've found some gorgeous dresses for over £100 but just can't justify spending that on a dress I will almost certainly only wear once so I've been looking for options under the £40 mark and what a mission it's been!

The Skort

Thursday, 24 October 2013

I remember my 8-year old self owning a few skorts (oh, the 90's) but I hadn't seen such a thing since, until a few months ago. When I first spotted the skort this summer, I had an flashback to the days I very reluctantly had to wear brown culottes every Thursday to brownies.  I absolutely hated these brown culottes at the time and they are still stuck in my childhood peeves. Now, I know culottes are a little different to skorts but i group them in the same category as they both serve the same purpose: modesty in skirt form. A genius concept mainly worn by tennis players and small children who don't quite understand ladylike mannerisms yet.

Revlon Black Cherry Lipstick

Wednesday, 23 October 2013

I know a lot of us are loving dark lip colours this season...although maybe on everyone else but ourselves. If you're anything like me, you'll have every intention of rocking plum or berry lips but in reality are absolutely terrified of the concept. I had a dark lipstick last winter and plucked up the courage to wear it on a couple of occasions but just as I started to become comfortable with the idea, the lipstick disappeared (just typical!). This means it's been a whole year since I last took the plunge so this year I have to start from scratch again! Now I'm not one to shy away from bold lipsticks, I love a kick of colour, but there's just something about the dark lip that absolutely terrifies me and I know many feel the same.

Maybelline Vintage Leather Nail Polish

Monday, 21 October 2013

I absoloutely love matte nails and although I was impressed by BarryM's versions, their colour selction is really shocking (review here). So when I heard about Maybelline's Vintage Leather nail polishes, I was dying to try them. These are supposed to look like old, distressed leather and have a matte appearance with grainy flecks. I picked up 'Red Grained' from Boots for £2.99 without a second thought and couldn't wait to give it a go.

October '13 Haul

Saturday, 19 October 2013

Everyone loves a haul (especially when you're the one buying!) so I thought I'd let you all know what I've been spending my pennies on this week. I spent a few hours in town yesterday and went to all my usual hotspots to look for goodies. I wasn't really looking for anything in particular but I knew I wanted some new lipsticks so I'll start there...

Style Crush: Suki Waterhouse

Friday, 18 October 2013

The Hair. The Clothes. Suki Waterhouse has jumped headfirst without a crash helmet into the fashion industry and boy has she been noticed. Being BFFs with Cara Delevingne has definitely done well for the model-slash-photographer-slash-actress-slash-singer (phew!). She's jumped straight to the fashion top in the style-stakes and this is why...

Casio Mini Watch

I've been eagerly awaiting the postman for the last few days and was so excited when I heard the door yesterday as he brought my new casio watch. YAYY! I've never been one for watches (probably because I wear too many bracelets for one to fit!) but recently I've found myself craving one. Cue the casio watch. I've stolen borrowed my sister's blue casio a couple of times but I eventually got caught so it was about time I had my own.

BarryM Confetti Paint

Wednesday, 16 October 2013

You may of guessed already that I love BarryM. It's no secret really but I recently bought the new confetti nail paint they've released. I love a nail experiment and this lovely pastel pink is right up my street so it wasn't long before I started dreaming up colour combos...

Cath Kidston Wishlist

Monday, 14 October 2013

I am not one bit ashamed in admitting I'm Cath Kidston obsessed and I know for sure that I'm not the only one. I get the feeling somthimes it's more like a secret club for the girliest of girls. Pink, cute and flowers, Cath sure knows the way to our hearts. I always find myself in trouble shopping there. Once I'm in, thats it! I'm not coming out without a damaged bank balance and that feeling of guilt where you can't quite justify what you've just done. I don't know what to blame more: the flowers, the pink or just the stores themselves. Whoever the culprit is, it's meant pretty patterns have swept across the country, encouraging the shabby chic-obsession. I bravely took a look on the website and picked out my favourite bits and bobs.

Cutting It. Boots

Saturday, 12 October 2013

I literally live in my new look studded boots as they just go with everything, I'm afraid if i give them too much love, they'll start falling apart so it's time for another pair of ankle boots to alternate. Enter the cut-out boot. I've seen so many of these around recently and decided to check out what's available online. There are so many to choose from and, to be honest, a lot of them look exactly the same but I searched high and low came across these little beauties.

Wednesday, 9 October 2013

I'm in desperate need of a new winter coat. Ok, maybe not, so I would really really like a new winter coat. I'm so tempted by the lovely pink boyfriend coats I've been seeing everywhere but somehow I'm not really seeing a pink coat as an investment piece. I can just see myself finding it next autumn and wondering how on earth I'm going to update it. It's all about investment coats (unless you have a killer bank balance) and that's certainly my plan. I've been scouring the online shopping world to find some serious options for this year's winter warmer.
Burgandy Boucle Faux Fur Collar Boyfriend Coat, £54.99 New Look

Tuesday, 8 October 2013

Thankyou to Samantha from dainty owl for tagging me for the versatile blogger award so here it goes...

It's no secret that I love vintage. Vintage furniture, photographs, clothes. Especially clothes! I often go through phases of vintage shopping as it's no light task. Hunting out gems is much more of a mission than some people think, but the rewards are so worth it! I love the idea of taking something that someone no longer loves and giving it a new lease of life.
I've managed to build a lovely collection of vintage through the years, and at such little cost as well! I've found that I have an attraction to two things in particular: sequins and velvet. This makes vintage shopping for A/W absoloutely perfect for me (and not so great in the summertime). I just thought I'd take you through some of my latest finds.

Sunday, 6 October 2013

I went on a bit of a spending spree this weekend (oops) and just thought I'd share some of the things I've bought with you. The majority of stuff I bought online so some haven't arrived yet but should be here in a couple of days. I get so excited ordering things online, I just love opening the parcel to see my new goodies! It's like a mini-christmas!
Emily Double Zip Purse, £12 boohoo

Saturday, 5 October 2013

I can't believe it's taken this long for me to write a post about the biggest colour of the season (and also coincidentally my all-time favourite colour) PINK! I can't wait to jump right into this trend, although I may need to buy some appropriate pieces first. I've always seen pink as being quite a difficult colour to wear in terms of matching things. If you've seen my previous post here, you'll know that I recently had a brave moment and bought an almost-flourescent pink jumper but I'm still having trouble with what to wear it with (if you have any bright ideas, please share!) but that seems to be all I own surprisingly. This calls for one thing: a wishlist. Here's my favourite contenders in the think pink A/W'13 category:

Friday, 4 October 2013

I know many a girl who loves her florals (myself included) so you can imagine the excitement when we saw the S/S '14 catwalks blooming with poppies, daisies and roses. I always jump right in when florals reappear on the catwalks as my wardrobe is just made for this ultimate feminine trend (and has been since I can remember!) Ok, so it's pretty clear that I LOVE FLOWERS so it will come as no surprise that when I found out about a new floral fashion campaign, I was super-interested!

Thursday, 3 October 2013

I'm going Barry M mad at the moment but I absoloutely love this collection! I've heard that many people are not keen on the finish of these paints but I'm completely hooked (as you can tell by the messy bottles!) They've been out for a while now but are still available to buy and I believe they've recently added more colours too! Firstly, the 18 shades in this collection are amazing, from blackberry to mango to grapefruit to guava, there's a fruity colour for everyone. I've round up the collection in our house to do a little review on 4 of the versions available: Blood Orange, Lychee, Prickly Pear and Key Lime.

Wednesday, 2 October 2013

I am such a sucker for nail colours and am dazzled everytime I walk through boots by the glitters, shimmers and sparkles of nail polish bottles. I've grown quite a collection through the years although the more I have, I feel the more I need. By far my favourite brand for nail varnish has to be Barry M for so many reasons: they have the best colour ranges, they do the best effects, the colours actually look the same on the nail and at just £2.99-£3.99 a pop, they're super-cheap.
Before recently, I had been happy sitting in the comfort zone of simple patent polish. (apart from the 90's glitter polish craze of course!) However, Barry M has a way of tempting me into a world of matte, crackle, shimmer and confetti.
Now I can't wait to try out new ranges and effects and Barry M is the perfect way to do it. They translate current makeup trends into affordable and wearable looks, especially nail trends! Ive most recently tried the new matte varnish.

My latest review is on the Ever After Matte palette by mua. Bought from Superdrug for £4.
