Revlon Black Cherry Lipstick

Wednesday, 23 October 2013

I know a lot of us are loving dark lip colours this season...although maybe on everyone else but ourselves. If you're anything like me, you'll have every intention of rocking plum or berry lips but in reality are absolutely terrified of the concept. I had a dark lipstick last winter and plucked up the courage to wear it on a couple of occasions but just as I started to become comfortable with the idea, the lipstick disappeared (just typical!). This means it's been a whole year since I last took the plunge so this year I have to start from scratch again! Now I'm not one to shy away from bold lipsticks, I love a kick of colour, but there's just something about the dark lip that absolutely terrifies me and I know many feel the same.

I had a crazy brave moment last week and bought on of these bold colours in a haul. To be honest, i was quite surprised how little selection there was but ended up choosing Revlon's super lustrous lipstick in #477, Black Cherry. Now it's safe to say that the colour of the stick is a surprise. The traditional revlon packaging twists up to reveal a dark chocolate-brown looking colour which is a slight shock to the system. I was expecting to see a colour more true to the 'black cherry' name, although when swatches (below) the name choice becomes clear. On my hand, the colour is a...well, cherry colour. It looks slightly more purple than the camera shows but is very pigmented.
Ok, so this was the most daunting part, but I'm actually surprised how much I like the colour. Yes, it's bold. Yes it's dark (although not as dark as I was expecting) but the colour is lovely and rich and I think worn in the right way (or maybe the right place) would look great. It's certainly a statement, not something you would slap on before a shopping trip or work as no doubt it would turn more than a few heads, but would be perfect for a night-out or meal. However, I have a feeling this colour is going to be fairly high-maintenance. I seem to remember my last dark lipstick being an absolute nightmare on a night out. The colour kept disappearing in the centre of the lips (no doubt caused by the constant flow of wine) leaving me with an exaggerated line around the outside. I've yet to commit to wearing this revlon lipstick to such an occasion but I hope it doesn't act the same.

Anyway, I'm quite surprised by this colour. I knew it was a risk and i've yet to wear it out but I'm 100% determined to introduce this lipstick into my a/w wardrobe (and not just for halloween!) Have you plucked up the courage for berry lips yet? I will if you will!

  5. Wow. this is exactly me. I bought this exact lipstick a few weeks ago and just posted an autumn inspired look with it this week. I also am a little scared off it but am quite bold with my make up anyway and I love taking the risk. Also, you look amazing in those pictures :) and the colour is so perfect for this time of year!

  7. Hey Abi!
This looks gorgeous on you, you should defo rock out this look. Also Barry M do a lip liner called blackcurrent, this will really suit it. If you lightly swipe the pencil around and on the lips and lipstick on top, it will last longer. Great post. Hope your well xxx
