My Top 5 Highstreet Makeup Buys

Saturday, 16 November 2013

It's easy to be persuaded into buying a new makeup 'miracle' product. I'm very easily tempted and a new product claiming to give flawless skin or last for 12 hours is always just what I need! It seems often you don't realise you have a problem until you're given a solution, at which point you realise that your new issue most definitely needs to be resolved and end up buying a 24 hour, non-smudge, water resistant, natural mineral, 12-in-one miracle product to solve all those problems you never realised you had. As you can probably tell, I often believe these claims and, yes sometime they work but many a times they don't (Oh, the disappointment) I'm always very happy relieved to find makeup that works for me and once I've found the puzzle piece, it stays firmly in my makeup bag. You know what they say, don't fix it if it ain't broke.

So through the years I've found some disaster products which I'm either delighted to finish and throw in the bin or just chuck them there from the outset. But I've also found some 'miracle' makeup (in the sense that it transforms my face into something remotely presentable!) Here's my top 5 makeup products I will buy and buy again...
So first of all is my foundation. I have searched and searched for years for a formula that works for my combination skin. I've tried everything from mousse foundations (yuck!) to mattifying foundations (too drying) and finally have settled for the maxfactor face finity all day flawless 3 in 1 foundation. Its the perfect formula to create a matte yet dewy finish and, when applied with my new brushes gives a lovely airbrushed look. As for staying power? It definitely fights its ground and in the evenings I swear I must take off pretty much all of what I applied.
I've been buying this mascara for years and years and although I have to admit that I have been unfaithful once or twice due to the previously mentioned lack of willpower, I've always gone back to the colossal. I only need one coat of this (although I normally apply a few more) and it covers my lashes, separating them and making them look lovely and long. Perfect.
I love vaseline but the most heartbreaking fact is that I've never finished a tin as I always lose them before I get a chance. I'm also one of those 'swirl not scoop' kinda girls (I think most of us are!) and heaven forbid if anyone tried to 'scoop' my vaseline. A few have tried and the outcome was not pretty, that's all I'll say. Anyway, vaseline gives me the opportunity to try out different products while remaining with a brand I love. I'm still working on battered tin of 'pink bubbly' vaseline from agessss ago and love love love it but I'm also wanting to try the new 'paint the town red' tin they have out.
Pressed powder is my saviour all year round because of the previously mentioned oily parts of my skin, it's so useful for controlling any shine peeking through. It's great for on-the-go and is permanently in my bag for emergencies! This maxfactor one is the ideal thickness and stays put pretty well giving a lovely matte finish.
Finally is the probably the newest product in my list; Lush's bubblegum lip scrub. Although it takes a bit of work on my horribly chapped lips, it's absolutely essential to make my lipstick sit on an even surface. I use this quite rigorously to get all of the rough/chapped bits of skin away and then follow with my vaseline. The best bit? It's made of sugar so can be licked off afterwards. What a treat!

So there you have it, my favourite makeup products. Do you have any solid faves you'll buy over and over again?
