| MUA matte lipstick in Lilac Belle |

I was more than happy to get involved in the whole purple lip trend this season. Enthusiasm surely had to be the first step and, you would have thought, the hardest. Admittedly, its quite daunting going a little more daring than usual with makeup. It's easy to get stuck in a routine, keeping things simple and familiar, well, whats the point in fixing it if it ain't broke? The point is to keep things fresh. It's exciting to have a bit of a change-up with makeup and I'm always intrigued by different lip trends in particular.

So, as I said, the enthusiasm was there, the next step was to execute the trend. This is when things became a little trickier. I searched and searched for a reasonably priced purple lipstick. It wasn't a berry purple I was after, more like a lilac (my sister had actually bought mac dodgy girl but, being a limited edition piece, it was sold out for me). It really did end up as a mission- one that I was determined not to fail. And I didn't. I eventually hunted out possibly the most reasonably priced lipstick I've ever bought at £1. Yup, £1.

Most of us are now familiar with the brand MUA, known for their good quality makeup and low prices. The only issue I have is with stock levels in my local Superdrug, but thats a whole different story... so I eventually found a lilac lipstick and, without any hesitation snapped it up. The colour is just what I was after. It's lilac, but very wearable, making it the perfect shade for those a little less brave. It does take a bit of work, the swatches above show just one swipe and three built up. Just the one doesn't make a whole lotta impact, it's one of those which needs some layering to actually become visible. To be brutally honest, I love the shade...hate the formula. Adding at least three layers to get any colour payoff is just annoying and, with it being a matte finish, the more layers, the more dying it ends up being- resulting in a not-so-sleek looking finish. I don't regret the purchase, being just £1, but I don't think I'd repurchase. It just goes to show that sometimes you do get what you pay for...
